Topic description
The topic will cover advanced topics in research skills across a range of disciplines including chemistry, physics, nanotechnology, clean technology and forensic science. The modules will cover advanced topics in research skills such as communication of results, analysis of results, critical evaluation of results, critical evaluation of the literature, reviewing of seminars etc.
Educational aims
The topic aims to:

  1. Develop advanced generic skills for students and in particular those related to research
  2. Develop high level communication skills
  3. Develop research skills especially in data analysis and interpretation
  4. Develop skills to probe and understand the literature, seminars and other sources of information
Expected learning outcomes
At the completion of this topic, students are expected to be able to:

  1. Become independent learners
  2. Communicate both orally and in written form, and to be familiar with modern, computer-based communication technology
  3. Have the ability to understand and interpret the data from cutting edge from a variety of sources
  4. Have the ability to analyse and interpret data from a range of instrumentation, equipment and other sources
