This topic offers a focused environment for the realisation of an independent practice-led research project. The project is developed from an honours research proposal and in conjunction with Creative Thesis.

Students will work with supervisor support to develop practice-led research outcomes in their field which will amount to a significant, critically refined and cohesive body of creative work.

Research outcomes might take the form of a visual art or craft art exhibition, digital media work(s), film or animation work(s), a fashion garment design range, or choreographic work(s) for dance and performance.

Students may also elect to undertake research in theoretical or historical aspects of the creative arts to produce an extended piece of scholarly writing.

This topic aims to:

• provide students with opportunities to engage with, and manage critically reflexive studio processes at an advanced, specialised level

• extend student technical facility, artistic sensibilities and develop creative capacities for resolved creative work and a coherent creative thesis through artistic mentorship and academic supervision

• analyse and apply theoretical and methodological frameworks from the relevant field of creative arts relating to an international context for a global perspective

• develop students' abilities in the application of relevant theory to self-directed speculative creative processes to produce an individual art research project

• develop students' research capacities including the ability to collect, organise and critically evaluate information and communicate outcomes in verbal and written form

On completion of this topic students will be able to:

• demonstrate research outcomes as a consistent creative research thesis or sustained argument, comprised of a highly resolved body of art works and a critically reflective contextual paper or exegesis.

• demonstrate skills in a range of self-directed supervised research activities

• demonstrate and communicate verbally and in written form an extensive in-depth theoretical knowledge of the international research context in the relevant field

• speculate about and critically evaluate the development of an individual creative project and its relationship with other contemporary and historical creative practice.

• develop and sustain an argument based on the information collected and analysed
