Assignment(s)

Student work at Honours level comprises both a resolved body of artwork achieved in Creative Research Project accompanied by a contextual paper or exegesis that identifies the related critical and thematic claims and context for the artwork.

This topic comprises the contextual paper or exegesis. In it, honours students will critique, and evaluate the speculative proposition(s) of their Creative Research Project as initiated in their proposal.

The progression of the work to its research conclusions will be evaluated in the associated exegesis, which will address the initial embedded research question(s), methodologies, reflection on contexts and on artefact outcomes.

This topic aims to:

• develop student capacities for verbal and written communication of art research including methodologies, theories and outcomes reflecting on an initial research proposition

• develop student capacity to engage in independent and contextually-informed artistic practice

• provide opportunities for students to reflect on their creative innovation and development

• develop students’ critical thinking in advanced studio art theory and associated fields in humanities and social science with an international perspective

• develop students' abilities to synthesise relevant theory from a practice-led project

• develop student capacities in understanding their relationship with and responsibility to their cultural context including respect for scholarly conventions; and intellectual integrity, and for the ethic of research.

On completion of this topic students will be able to:

• sustain a creative research project to resolution including planning, problem- solving and reflection on its relationship to explicit aims and relative interpretation

• undertake practice and the analysis of practice, within the scope of a specific research design

• practice from a body of critical knowledge in a particular field of creative arts

• evaluate the research outcomes and appropriateness of the original research design

• communicate issues related to creative-led research in verbal and in written form informed by an international perspective
