In this topic, students will apply their existing knowledge of the relationship between law and society/criminology to specific projects. This application will also allow students to acquire new knowledge and practical skills concerning the relationship between law and society/criminology. Students will encounter and evaluate the responsibilities, roles, attitudes, values, priorities, judgments and work methods of service providers operating in the field of law and society/criminology while completing their project. This topic will provide students with an opportunity to reflect upon the knowledge and skills that they have already developed, and to assess what additional knowledge and skills they may require before undertaking employment.

The topic aims to assist students to:

• apply skills and knowledge already acquired in their undergraduate degree concerning the relationship between law and society/criminology
• acquire new practical skills concerning the relationship between law and society/criminology
• Identify the responsibilities, roles, attitudes, values, priorities, judgments and work methods of service providers /project supervisor
• develop professional attitudes, including reflective thinking skills
• reflect on WIL experience

Upon completion of this topic, students will be able to:

• apply acquired practical skills relevant to the workplace during the course of an industry work placement or research project
• deploy acquired new practical skills relevant to the workplace or research project
• develop knowledge of the culture of a specific workplace/s or the complexity of a research project
• demonstrate a range of competencies relative to a specific experience/project
• demonstrate a professional attitude, including objective and reflective thinking skills
