In this topic students will explore health management and the principles of emergency management across the disaster cycle.

The aim of this topic is for students to explore and critically analyse issues related to health management and the principles of emergency management across the disaster cycle.

On successful completion of this topic, students will be able to:

define generic disaster and emergency management terms used for disaster planning and response
identify and analyse the health aspects, emergency management principles and concepts used internationally for disaster planning and response
analyse key issues and challenges in the preparedness and resilience of individuals, hospitals, communities and regions to disasters
discuss the roles and practice of health care professionals and health services across the disaster cycle
discuss disasters in the international context, with particular focus on organisations that influence disaster planning, response and recovery
critically analyse and reflect on their own role and practice as part of an interprofessional team across the disaster cycle.
