Topic description
In this topic students will focus on the specific logistical support required for deployment to a disaster setting as part of a medical assistance team.
Educational aims
The aim of this topic is to provide students with an opportunity to advance their knowledge of the unique logistical requirements of a health response to disaster. Students will then be enabled to apply health logistics principles and technical frameworks to disaster deployment situations.
Expected learning outcomes
On successful completion of this topic students will be able to:

  • critique the principles and practice of health logistics

  • analyse the specific characteristics of health logistics in the austere / disaster environment

  • critically analyse the broader concepts of applying health-related logistics to an international disaster response.
