Topic description
Students will generate a research paper of 5,000 words that reflects critically on practice. Papers, which follow from the research framework developed in DRAM7104 Performance Research, will respond to specific research questions imbedded in their practice during their honours year. These papers, linked to performance outcomes and issues extending from their professional training during their honours year, will be offered for examination. Students will also be required to submit documentation of related performance work to which the research paper refers.
Educational aims
This topic aims to

  • Develop students’ skills in reflecting critically on their performance training through a practice-led research investigation

  • Provide opportunities for students to place their creative development within an appropriate research framework

  • Further develop students' skills and abilities in critical thinking

  • Support students in producing an extended piece of practice-led research

  • Develop students' abilities to synthesise relevant theory and apply it meaningfully to practice
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be able to:

  • analyse their practice within the framework of a specific research design

  • evaluate the appropriateness of the original research design

  • identify and apply appropriate methodologies to support their research investigation

  • use theory to support and make sense of their practice

  • make a contribution of the field of practice-led research through their research writing
