Topic description
This topic builds on third year level Production topics, and continues to provide Drama Centre students with further experience in theatre, television and film production.

Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • develop an understanding of professional rehearsal techniques and practices as used in the theatre, television, and film industries

  • apply the performance techniques learnt in the first year Drama Centre acting and directing course to a production context

  • give students the experience of working in front of a live audience in a variety of different performance venues
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic acting students will be able to:

  • effectively use professional rehearsal techniques and practice to develop a performance at a professional level

  • work as part of an ensemble at a professional level

  • enunciate, discuss and evaluate ideas in a group situation at a professional level

  • apply acting methodology, voice and movement techniques to the requirements of a live or electronic performance at a professional level

  • convey ideas, character, situation, emotion, relationship and story to an audience or the camera as directed at a professional level

Directing students will be able to:

  • effectively use professional rehearsal techniques and practice to develop a live or electronic performance at a professional level

  • create an ensemble at a professional level

  • enunciate, discuss and evaluate ideas in a group situation at a professional level

  • apply directing, dramaturgy and design methodology to create a live or electronic performance at a professional level

  • direct actors to convey ideas, character, situation, emotion, relationship and story to the camera or an audience at a professional level
