Topic description
This topic provides opportunities for students to extend their experience working alongside professionals in the field to build upon awareness and professional competencies gained from previous paid or practicum experience. Examination of the role of service provision in the lives of people living with disability and their families continues. Community, education, health and lifestyle provide the context for exploration of practices that support a life of choice for people living with disability with a focus on individual supports and relationships. Students from the Bachelor of Disability and Developmental Education enrolled in this topic will be commencing their third Practicum placement.
Educational aims
This topic aims to provide students with the opportunity to further develop their professional skills and competencies. Including:

  1. The ability to work as part of a professional team in the provision of services to people with a disability and those who support them.

  2. Developing self-awareness around skills and professional competencies.

  3. Project coordination, basic research and critical analysis skills.

  4. Issues around coordinating and managing the provision of quality services that meet standards and accreditation processes.

  5. Working with minimal supervision within experience and capabilities.

  6. Developing an ability to be self-reflective about their own practices and performance in the provision of services to people living with disability.
