This topic and DSRS7004A are assessed as a continuum. Students must enrol in DSRS7004A and DSRS7004B Disability Studies Honours Thesis in two consecutive semesters. The topics cannot be undertaken singularly.

Students will design and conduct an independent investigation and report on their findings in a thesis of not more than 18,000 words. The completed thesis is submitted at the end of the year. The thesis shall demonstrate: a substantial analysis of and research into a problem and mastery of the relevant literature; and a thorough understanding of the relevant research techniques in the field of study. Students will be required to submit a proposed thesis topic to the Head of the School for approval. Following this approval a supervisor will be assigned to the student.

This topic aims to provide students with the opportunity to conduct a supervised research study in the broad area of disability/rehabilitation studies and/or its contributing discliplines. The findings of the study are to be presented in a thesis of approximately 18,000 words, which shall be examined by two examiners.

At the completion of this topic students will be able to:

• Identify a researchable and significant problem/issue for investigation.

• Critically appraise and synthesise the literature in an area of disability/rehabilitation.

• Analyse, interpret and synthesise information.

• Clearly describe the methods/procedures used in the study.

• Present the findings from the study in a sequential/logical manner.

• Discuss fully and coherently the meaning and implications of the findings.

• Demonstrate an understanding links between theory and practice
