Topic description
Through a series of 12 lectures and 5 lead-in teaching days at a school, this topic will prepare pre-service teachers for their first ‘block’ teaching experience to be undertaken in semester two through the topic EDUC3642. During these lead-in days pre-service teachers will observe classes, develop a teaching timetable and collaborate with mentors on forthcoming teaching responsibilities.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • ensure the pre-service teachers understand the legal and professional requirements of teachers and of them as pre-service teachers when they undertake professional experiences

  • ensure that the pre-service teachers understand the behaviours and performance in the classroom expected of them while undertaking teaching and associated duties and responsibilities
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be able to:

  • undertake school professional experience in Semester 2

  • demonstrate understanding of the professional role of a teacher
