Topic description
This topic offered as online study is intended for teachers in IB World Schools offering or planning to offer the IBMYP or wishing to work in IBMYP schools internationally or in their home country or aspiring to leadership in curriculum design, pedagogy and collaborative practice in IBMYP schools or seeking enhanced professional satisfaction gained from deeper understanding of IBMYP philosophy, principles and practices. Participants in this course will study the philosophy, origins and current requirements of the IBMYP. They will study the philosophical and values based principles that underpin the IBMYP and the complex implications of the term ‘international education. Students are expected to participate in the online learning environment through blogs, collaborative exercises, assignments and independent study.
Educational aims
The aim of this topic is to:

  • Gain specialised knowledge about the design and structure of the IBMYP curriculum and apply this knowledge in a practical way to national and international school contexts.

  • Provide a solid foundation for understanding how IBMYP curriculum programs are planned, implemented and evaluated.

  • Develop critically reflective practices, collaborative learning and collegial activities that draw on the interdisciplinary expertise within the University
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic, students will be expected to be able to:

  • Critically analyse and appraise the values, philosophy and essential features of the IB programme continuum including internationalism and the relationship between the IBMYP and other IB programmes
  • Describe and apply the IBMYP curriculum framework and the principles that underpin it
  • Engage in reflective practice regarding IBMYP programme planning, implementation and evaluation.
  • Undertake and evaluate collaborative working practices intended to promote IBMYP learning outcomes
