Topic description
This topic comprises an in-depth consideration of major organisation theory developments in association with contextual issues that shape leading and managing. The topic provides for a considered application of those major theories where they relate to structure, culture, people and power and are relevant to successful organisational change.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • develop an understanding and appreciation of organisation theory as integral to leading and managing

  • facilitate theorising about leading and managing in diverse organisational cultures and contexts

  • provide opportunity for the analysis, evaluation and application of theory to organisational change
Expected learning outcomes
On completing this topic students will be able to:

  • evaluate the role of organisational theory in operational contexts and issues

  • integrate organisational theories and generate context responsive approaches to the leadership and management of organisational change
