Topic description
This topic is focussed on building a practical knowledge associated with planning and constructing a program of learning in the IBMYP. It will provide a basis for understanding the MYP curriculum framework, subject specific MYP objectives and criteria, the significance of the Global contexts in the MYP, the role and nature of the Projects, the MYP Unit Planner, and interdisciplinary learning in the MYP. The principles and practices involved in vertical and horizontal planning will also be included. The process of reflective practice and its role in improving teaching and learning in the IBMYP context is considered, as is the importance of collaborative learning and collegial activities in support of the aims and objectives of the IBMYP.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • build a practical knowledge about planning and constructing a program of learning in the IBMYP
  • develop an appreciation of the significance of the Approaches to Learning, Global contexts and Projects in the MYP
  • develop a commitment to reflective practice, collaborative learning, and collegial activities in support of the aims and objectives of the IBMYP
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic, students will be able to:

  • Apply IBMYP curriculum theory and practices to effectively plan and construct programs of learning
  • Critique and apply the educational theories that drive the implementation of the IBMYP
  • Develop collaborative practices to enable interdisciplinary teaching and learning, standardization and IBMYP project development
  • Design collaborative curriculum program implementation and induction processes at school level and demonstrate a commitment to reflective practices
