Topic description
A thesis must be completed by all students completing an Honours degree in English or Creative Writing. The thesis comprises 13.5 units of work, including this topic, and ENGL7700A Thesis.

The thesis is 12000-13500 words. Students completing a creative thesis will complete a creative piece (roughly 60% of the word length) and an exegesis (roughly 40% of the word length).
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • provide students with the research and writing tools needed to complete an Honours thesis

  • instil in students an awareness of the creative and/or critical methodologies that they use in their creative and/or critical practices
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will have gained:

  • skills in a range of research activities including database/internet research, ethical research, primary and secondary analysis, applying secondary material and theory, and advanced creative/critical writing skills

  • the ability to communicate research skills and knowledge via oral and written communication/assessment

  • advanced written communication skills
