Topic description
This topic focusses on the design methodologies for complex and ill-defined agricultural and biosystems engineering problems bringing together the material learnt in the first three years of the award. The focus will include identifying client needs and gathering information; assessment and evaluation of agricultural engineering designs; developing design specifications; project management and documentation; teamwork, leadership and mentoring; self-reflection, creativity and innovation.
Educational aims
This topic aims to develop in students an advanced and practical understanding of agricultural and biosystems engineering design through the integration of theory and methods across a range of engineering disciplines. This includes the assessment and evaluation of engineering designs, project management and documentation methods and tools in the agricultural and biosystems engineering context
Expected learning outcomes
At the completion of this topic, students are expected to be able to:

  1. Demonstrate an advanced and practical understanding of agricultural and biosystems engineering design
  2. Develop creative and innovative solutions to complex agricultural and biosystems engineering design problems
  3. Appreciate the environment in which agricultural and biosystems engineering is used
  4. Demonstrate communication and teamwork skills appropriate for a professional engineer
  5. Use project management and documentation methods and tools
