Topic description
Potential flow theory, Navier-Stokes equations; laminar and turbulent boundary layers; external flows; aerodynamics; heat transfer and experimental techniques.
Educational aims
The topic aims to ensure that the students have a basic understanding of the following:

  1. Applying the equations of fluid mechanics to model various flows
  2. Identifying and calculating rates of heat transfer
Expected learning outcomes
At the completion of the topic, students are expected to be able to:

  1. Understand and apply potential flow theory and the Navier-Stokes equations
  2. Understand and apply fundamental of internal flows and external flows
  3. Understand and apply fundamentals of heat transfer
  4. Understand heat exchanger operation and selection
  5. Understand how to research and report on a selected topic
