Topic description
This topic provides students with a range of skills utilised by environmental professionals. The topic includes identification of the role environmental professionals play in society, identification and critical assessment of current environmental issues, development of oral, written, critical reasoning, time management and teamwork skills for use in study and the work place. Students will also develop a variety of environmental literacies.
Educational aims
  1. Develop the skills necessary for persuasive and logical arguments for oral and written communication to a range of audiences and using a variety of media
  2. Understand the role of the environmental profession in society
  3. Identify and understand and critically assess current topical issues involving the Environment and Society
  4. To introduce the students to a variety of environmental literacies
  5. To obtain the skills to efficiently identify and retrieve relevant information from the body of environmental literature
  6. Apply this information/knowledge to investigate and analyse a broad range of environmental problems
  7. Work effectively in multidisciplinary teams
  8. To develop effective time management and study skills
  9. Understand the political, economic, cultural, sustainability and ethical issues associated with environmental work
Expected learning outcomes
At the completion of this topic, students are expected to be able to:

  3. Understand and respond to expectations of an environmental professional
