1 x 50-minute lecture fortnightly
2 x 3-hour workshops per semester
2 x 1-day field placements weekly

Completion of Year 1 and Year 2 core topics.

This topic provides students with opportunities for field investigations in regions, national or international settings in which key measurements and other data will be collected relevant to environmental issues. Students will be introduced to and trained in the use of appropriate field equipment and relevant workplace health and safety procedures. The practical experiences of data collection will complement theoretical elements developed in other topics.

The aims for this topic are to:

Extend students' understanding of the principles of good professional practice relevant to field collection of data and samples
Offer students practical experience in the collection of field data relevant to their environmental interests outside the local Adelaide region
Extend student skills development in the preparation of professional quality reports relevant to their discipline
Broaden student perspectives on the nature of work within environmental disciplines
Provide students with opportunities to participate in field work projects in a range of locations, including regional, national and international sites
Introduce students to relevant workplace health and safety procedures

At the conclusion of this topic, students are expected tol be able to:

Apply good sampling and recording methods and techniques in environmental disciplines
Competently perform a variety of assessment and monitoring methods and techniques
Consider the strengths and limitations of field samples and data of different types.in field reports
Analyse and synthesis data suitable for preparing a professional-quality field report
Apply professional skills to the conduct and reporting of a field report
Understand policy, cultural and other issues that may impact on the collection of field samples and data
Apply workplace health and safety policies that relate to working in the field, especially in national and international settings
