Topic description
The topic aims to further extend the student's research skills by continuing projects commenced in ENVS9870 Environmental Research Project GE. Projects require individual effort to be applied as part of a team within a work integrated learning environment or with a member or group of the School staff. The projects are jointly supervised by academic staff and staff from collaborating external organisations where appropriate. Students will continue to investigate a research question relevant to environmental issues. Topics covered include advanced data collection and analysis; critical discussion of the findings and presentation at a research colloquium with supervisors in attendance.

  1. To apply research paradigms available to address environmental issues
  2. To further develop practical research skills relevant to the environment
  3. To gather substantial data and to critically analyse and report them to a diverse audience
  4. To work effectively to apply a range of skills to selected research problems
Expected learning outcomes
At the completion of this topic, students are expected to be able to:

  1. Demonstrate an ability to extend an area of environmental investigation
  2. Critically evaluate and include published research findings in a major research report
  3. Demonstrate competency in independent collection and analysis of research data
  4. Interpret the results of the research and make recommendations appropriate to these research findings suitable for presentation to an external agency
  5. Communicate the findings in a clear and concise manner for the target agency
