Topic description
In this first semester cultural topic, students will consider issues relating to French culture and society as illustrated in a selection of authentic written, aural and/or visual texts. Students may be offered a range of studies relating to French cinema.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:
- extend students' understanding of past and contemporary cultural and societal issues
- introduce students to critical and analytical skills through the study of French texts
- expose students to independent and collaborative learning and to language learning skill development
- provide opportunities for the development or consolidation of students' background knowledge of socio-cultural issues related to French and/or Francophone arts, literature and society
Expected learning outcomes
On completing this topic, students will be able to:
- communicate in speech and writing on a range of topics
- read, discuss and critique a variety of authentic texts
- identify and discuss socio-cultural issues and use them for the interpretation and comparison of texts
