Topic description
This topic is designed to develop further the students' proficiency in the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Classes will cover advanced features of the French language, particularly syntax and stylistics, appropriate with this level. Students will use and produce a range of complex texts in French.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • consolidate and expand further students' knowledge of advanced French grammar, particularly syntax, styles and registers

  • continue to enhance students' communicative competence and collaborative learning skills, through participation in activities involving exposure to a variety of authentic materials and media, and participation in group or pair interaction
Expected learning outcomes
On completing this topic, students will be able to:

  • interpret extended speech in French following complex lines of argument

  • participate in conversations, with fluency and spontaneity and express personal views and opinions

  • read, interpret, paraphrase and summarise extended articles, reports and, in general, argumentative texts concerned with contemporary issues

  • produce texts that contain clear, systematically developed descriptions with appropriate highlighting of significant points, and relevant supporting detail on a range of subjects related to one's field of interest
