Topic description
This topic is a combination of theoretical research, and discovery, including research of the contemporary fashion industry at a retail level. This research can be undertaken interstate or locally. Based on contemporary fashions, students will design, develop and present a project based on research and criteria determined by the design brief
Educational aims
This topic aims to give students the opportunity to:

  • develop confidence to experiment with design and construction techniques
  • expand their design skills and critical thinking
  • develop an understanding of the nature and content of the process of developing garments in a commercial setting
  • acquired technical knowledge to enhance their abilities as fashion product developers and designers
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be able to:

  • demonstrate their ability to work to industry standards, including understanding and developing products to address client briefs, working to client deadlines, and producing industry standard garments
  • produce fashion portfolio work and supporting materials showcasing their work
  • develop work from concept to completion
  • display technical knowledge that will enhance their abilities as fashion product developers and designers
