Topic description
This topic provides a bridge from theory to practice designed to develop leadership and change management skills, and practice. The content is designed to be transferable across the spectrum of healthcare settings with emphasis on educational leadership, negotiating change and influencing health services. The topic introduces change in complex adaptive systems, change management strategies and their application in health services.

The topic is offered on-line and is as experiential as possible through a practicum project. Participants will be encouraged to share information and articulate ideas through focused online discussions through sharing of ideas and work experience.
Educational aims
The aim is to introduce participants to leadership and change management and develop fundamental skills as a change agent in educational leadership.
Expected learning outcomes
Successful completion of this topic will enable participants to:

  • Critically evaluate a range of theoretical concepts including health as a complex adaptive system.

  • Develop advanced change management skills such as negotiation, and influencing skills to lead change.

  • Understand why change in health services needs to focus on outcomes.

  • Awareness of significant strategic issues in organisational change and educational leadership.

  • The ability to critique change management practices within healthcare organisations and provide constructive feedback.
