Topic description
This topic will examine the methodology and theory of Resistance Training. It will provide students the opportunity to develop and apply knowledge to design resistance training programs targeting Strength, Power, Hypertrophy and Muscular Endurance. Additionally, students will learn program design that integrates periodisation, training principles and exercise selection.
Educational aims
  • The aim of this topic is to introduce training principles and periodisation to assist in strength and conditioning program design.

  • Students will explore the theoretical framework of Resistance Training in the context of Strength, Power, Hypertrophy and Muscular Endurance.
Expected learning outcomes
At the completion of the topic students will be able to:

  • Describe the theoretical framework for training principles, periodization and exercise selection in the context of program design

  • Describe appropriate programming that targets Strength

  • Describe appropriate programming that targets Power

  • Describe appropriate programming that targets Hypertrophy

  • Describe appropriate programming that targets Muscular Endurance

  • Create program design on a spreadsheet

  • Evaluate existing resistance programs and make modifications if required

  • Apply understanding of the importance of using periodisation in programming
