Topic description
The topic covers the human organ systems in detail (in particular, the integumentary, musculoskeletal, endocrine, nervous, cardiovascular, renal, gastro-intestinal, respiratory and reproductive systems). In addition some chemical and physical science principles appliedto the body are introduced where appropriate. This topic will provide the student with a strong general background knowledge of both anatomy and physiology.
Educational aims
The aim of this topic is to introduce the student to the basic anatomy and physiology of the healthy human body.
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic, students will be expected to be able to:

  • identify structures in the anatomical systems covered

  • have some understanding of the normal physiology of body systems

  • have some appreciation of the physical science applicable to body systems

  • provide written answers to specific questions posed about anatomy and physiology

  • record accurately the course and outcomes of laboratory exercises

  • use the Harvard referencing system correctly.
