Topic description
This topic will be taught as an independent study through consultation with the topic convener in order to cater to a particular student or group of students. The topic will enable students to investigate a particular issue, aspect or interest related to contemporary Indonesia. Students will develop high-level language and intercultural capabilities, as well as research and analytical skills.

Assessment will take the form of a final assignment in Indonesian tailored to the student/s’ particular focus.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • develop students’ communication skills to interact with a high level of written and oral Indonesian

  • enable students to investigate a particular issue, aspect, or interest related to contemporary Indonesia through using authentic Indonesian language resources

  • promote an intercultural language perspective on interacting in Indonesian, including reflecting on their own language use

  • develop students' skills in critical thinking, analysis and reporting through sourcing, analysing and synthesising materials including relevant readings
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be able to:

  • interact with others using high-level written and oral Indonesian

  • demonstrate in-depth understanding of a particular issue, aspect or interest related to contemporary Indonesia

  • critically select, analyse and synthesise authentic resources in Indonesian

  • demonstrate a critical intercultural perspective and understanding towards interaction with others
