Topic description
The topic's objective is to develop further students’ knowledge of standard written Indonesian language. Special attention is directed to developing extensive vocabulary, and writing skills, and reinforcing essential grammar points and sentence structures in Indonesian texts. Development of speaking skills in practical language activities and thematic discussions will be important components of this topic.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • provide intermediate students with greater confidence in using the Indonesian language

  • provide opportunities to build vocabulary through interactive reading, writing, speaking, and listening activities

  • expose students to texts about the culture of contemporary Indonesian society
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be able to:

  • actively use a basic range of vocabulary in their oral performance and to recognise words and expressions frequently used in the writing style of media

  • demonstrate an appropriate understanding of the cultural background of contemporary Indonesian society

  • analyse more deeply and discuss social issues related to the themes in the reading texts

  • write a summary, commentary, review, and/or report in Indonesian on a familiar topic or some current affairs issue, following an adequately coherent argument

  • use a range of the grammatical structures taught in the topic correctly
