Topic description
In this topic students will extend their Indonesian language by intensifying their reading and writing skills. All lessons will use authentic texts (written, oral and aural) describing contemporary Indonesian society.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • further develop basic reading skill, using a range of original Indonesian written, visual and verbal texts

  • extend speaking skills in short discussions

  • enable students to undertake basic conversation on social issues in contemporary Indonesia

  • expose students to applied grammar by analysing the reading texts through explanation and exercises involving Indonesian grammar

  • enable students to recognise, understand, and replicate grammatical and sentence structures
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be able to:

  • gain more confidence in using the Indonesian language through the internet

  • describe Indonesian language in an historical and contemporary context and analyse this in relation to modern Indonesian society

  • identify and critique a range of written and visual texts, and analyse their usefulness for the teaching of Indonesian, as appropriate to level of teaching

  • communicate ideas for developing teaching resources, plans and skills in relation to the teaching of Indonesian

  • use reading, writing, speaking, and listening strategies more effectively

  • gain a better understanding of the cultural background of Indonesian society and implications for relationships with Australia

  • analyse more deeply and accurately social issues related to the themes in the reading texts

  • produce increasingly complex pieces of written Indonesian
