Topic description
This topic will further enhance students' advanced language skills to high levels of reading and writing. Authentic resources from the various media including newspapers, journals, television, films and the Internet will be used. To equip students with more in-depth understanding of Indonesian changing society, the lessons will be devoted to contemporary social issues but linked to cultural and historical issues.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • develop intermediate skills in production and reception of written and spoken Indonesian

  • provide opportunities for students to increase their vocabulary by exposing them to a range of visual, verbal and written texts

  • develop students' understanding about contemporary Indonesian culture, politics and society
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be able to:

  • use an intermediate level of vocabulary in the production and reception of spoken Indonesian, and in a range of text types

  • examine critically the cultural background of contemporary Indonesian society

  • use an intermediate range of the grammatical and syntactical structures
