Topic description
This topic will be taught as a directed study project in an area of Indonesian Studies. Students will chose an area of interest to themselves, related to Indonesian language and/or culture, and develop a minor study in consultation with a supervisor. The project will require students to examine literature, or other source materials, and develop an hypothesis or thesis that can be tested. The chosen area of study must be developed in negotiation with a suitable supervisor.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • allow students to undertake an in-depth project in Indonesian Studies

  • allow students to generate particular skills/knowledge relating to an area of Indonesian Studies

  • improve students' research skills and ability to critically evaluate literature

  • allow students further develop their written and spoken Indonesian
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be able to:

  • compose independent research

  • demonstrate in-depth understanding of a particular issue, aspect or interest related to contemporary Indonesia

  • critically select, analyse and synthesise authentic resources in Indonesian and English

  • communicate the results of their research both orally and in writing
