Topic description
In this topic students will study different aspects of Greek history and tradition. Students will either undertake study from upper level Modern Greek culture topics, or work on an individual research project.

Lectures are in English and assessment details will be negotiated with individual students, based on the student's area of interest and staff availability. Students undertaking study from upper level Modern Greek culture topics will be assessed at a graduate level.
Educational aims
The topic aims to:

  • introduce students to selective historical, social, cultural and literary issues of Greece as well as the Greek speaking communities in general

  • expose students to independent and collaborative learning

  • consolidate students' research skills in historical, social, cultural and literary fields

  • introduce students to academic writing
Expected learning outcomes
On successful completion of this topic students will be able to:

  • recognise, understand, compare and contrast historical, social, cultural and literary issues of Greece and the Greek speaking communities

  • read and analyse argumentative texts

  • participate effectively in collaborative projects

  • understand and apply academic writing by producing a research paper
