Topic description
The arrival of imperial law; law and Indigenous people in relation to land; the evolution of the legal system to 1850; the origins of Torrens Title; the removal of judges and the Boothby affair; innovations in family law; the legal rights of women: property, the franchise and the legal profession.
Educational aims
The topic aims to assist students to:

  • find and understand primary legal history materials
  • construct an argument based on such materials
  • offer and support an interpretation of legal historical phenomena
Expected learning outcomes
