The arrival of imperial law; law and Indigenous people in relation to land; the evolution of the legal system to 1850; the origins of Torrens Title; the removal of judges and the Boothby affair; innovations in family law; the legal rights of women: property, the franchise and the legal profession.

The topic aims to assist students to:

find and understand primary legal history materials
construct an argument based on such materials
offer and support an interpretation of legal historical phenomena

On successful completion of the topic, students will be able to demonstrate skills and knowledge in:
