Research proposal, Dissertation
Topic description
Students will engage in sustained advanced research to produce a research proposal, as well as an 8000 - 10 000 word extended research essay (dissertation) under supervision on an approved topic.
Educational aims
The educational aims of this topic are to:

  1. Provide students with an opportunity to engage in sustained and advanced research and writing
  2. Enable students to provide evidence of the ability to collect and evaluate information; construct, test and defend an argument; and critically examine theories, legal principles, policy and literature in the area of academic enquiry
  3. Prepare students for research higher degrees.
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic, students will be expected to be able to demonstrate:

  1. Advanced research skills
  2. Advanced capacity to analyse legal issues
  3. Advanced understanding of the state of the academic literature and legal and/or policy considerations relating to their research topic
  4. Ability to work independently on a large research project
  5. Capacity to write effectively.
