Assessment
Research proposal, Dissertation
Topic description
Students will engage in sustained advanced research to produce a research proposal, as well as an 8000 - 10 000 word extended research essay (dissertation) under supervision on an approved topic.
Educational aims
The educational aims of this topic are to:
- Provide students with an opportunity to engage in sustained and advanced research and writing
- Enable students to provide evidence of the ability to collect and evaluate information; construct, test and defend an argument; and critically examine theories, legal principles, policy and literature in the area of academic enquiry
- Prepare students for research higher degrees.
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic, students will be expected to be able to demonstrate:
- Advanced research skills
- Advanced capacity to analyse legal issues
- Advanced understanding of the state of the academic literature and legal and/or policy considerations relating to their research topic
- Ability to work independently on a large research project
- Capacity to write effectively.
