Topic description
This topic is designed to develop further the students' proficiency in the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Classes will cover advanced features of the Modern Greek language, particularly syntax and stylistics, appropriate with this level. Students will use a produce a range of complex texts in Modern Greek.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • consolidate and expand students' knowledge of Modern Greek grammatical structures and vocabulary acquired at previous levels

  • further enhance the students' communicative competence through participation in activities involving exposure to a variety of media and group or pair interaction

  • assist students to analyse and understand different text types, including literary texts, and to produce complex written and spoken texts
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be able to:

  • recognise, reproduce and describe grammatical, syntactical, lexical and phonetic structures acquired throughout the semester

  • interpret extended speech in Modern Greek following somewhat complex lines of argument

  • read, interpret, paraphrase and summarise articles, reports and, argumentative texts concerned with contemporary issues

  • communicate in speech and writing on a range of familiar topics, using complex language to produce extended texts

  • participate in conversations, with some fluency and spontaneity
