Topic description
The topic aims to provide each student with the knowledge of and ability to assess high prevalence psychological disorders using a cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) framework to guide practice. The content will introduce students to assessment for high prevalence psychological disorders, measures and interventions delivered in CBT. Also included are behavioural formulations, goal setting and cognitive behavioural treatment models.
Educational aims
The topic aims to offer students the knowledge and competence to undertake clinical assessments within a cognitive behaviour framework with emphasis on evidence-based interventions, measurement, formulations, case conceptualisations and cognitive therapy techniques. The topic covers several areas: high prevalence psychological disorders; clinical interviewing skills; behavioural formulations; clinical measures; cognitive therapy, case conceptualisations; and high intensity CBT models.
Expected learning outcomes
On successful completion of this topic students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate competence in conducting an assessment for a high prevalence psychological disorder using a cognitive behaviour therapy framework

  2. Explain a range of treatment interventions informed by an evidence-based competency framework

  3. Differentiate behavioural and cognitive treatments for high prevalence psychological disorders

  4. Select and administer measurement tools to guide and inform assessment and treatment options

  5. Develop rationales and conceptualisations to support collaborative interventions.
