Topic description
This topic builds and expands on previous knowledge and skills developed and will advance students' understanding of the clinical processes within a Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) framework. The topic is delivered as an intensive workshop with online modules. The content will explore and further develop students' understanding and knowledge in applying CBT with a particular emphasis on cognitive therapy, case conceptualisations and treatment interventions for a broader range of psychological disorders.
Educational aims
The topic aims to offer students an extended knowledge and competence to undertake clinical assessments within a cognitive behaviour framework with emphasis on case conceptualisations and cognitive therapy techniques. The topic covers several areas: cognitive therapy, assessment, case conceptualisations, clinical measures and high intensity CBT models.
Expected learning outcomes
On successful completion of the topic students should be able to:

  • Demonstrate competence in undertaking a comprehensive clinical assessment using a cognitive therapy framework.

  • Select and administer measurement tools to guide and inform assessment and treatment options.

  • Provide a cognitive conceptualisation and treatment options using a CBT model.

  • Determine appropriate treatment interventions informed by evidence-based practice guidelines.

  • Apply reflective practice skills to demonstrate fidelity to a CBT competency-based framework.
