Online Quiz (10%), Critical Appraisal of Research (30%), Oral Presentation (10%), and Research Proposal (50%)

The topic provides students with the knowledge and skills to critically interpret, analyse and comprehend research from an informed perspective. The lectures will introduce students to qualitative and quantitative research design methodologies as they relate to psychological and behavioural sciences. Students will learn how to carry out basic quantitative data analysis as well as interpret, critique, and assess research. Finally, students will learn how to plan, construct and implement research in a systematic way to establish research proposal.

The topic aims to offer students grounding in research principles that equip them to understand, devise and critically evaluate research evidence. Upon completion of the topic students will have an understanding of how to find, evaluate, and incorporate evidence into their own practice and evaluate their own research.

On successful completion of the topic students should be able to:

Understand and critically assess research methodology.
Apply the results of research to their clinical practice in an informed manner.
Design and evaluate a research protocol.
Consider ethical issues in research and demonstrate a sound understanding of the process, purpose and protocols involved in undertaking investigations.
