Topic description
Students will review the legal and ethical issues involved in treatment and accountability implications for independent practice. The development, management and evaluation of a clinical service within health systems both at an organisational and professional level will be included. The role of professional bodies such as the Australian Association of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (AACBT) and other relevant professional memberships. A range of contemporary clinical practice issues will be explored. There will also be an emphasis on teaching and supervision skills essential to the development of the role of an independent practitioner. Students will examine issues related to teamwork, event and project planning, delivery and working within timeframes.
Educational aims
The topic aims to offer students skills and knowledge in delivering, preparing and coordinating group projects for a range of professionals, service providers and support agencies within health and related fields. The topic covers several areas: National and State-wide focused psychological service initiatives; professional, ethical and regulatory responsibilities in health and social care settings; skills and planning for training and delivery of educative evidence-based clinical models to agencies and services working with people experiencing psychological disorders; and collaborative peer-orientated evaluation models.
Expected learning outcomes
On successful completion of the topic students should be able to:

  • Recognise and respond to National and State-wide mental health priorities.

  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills to deliver training and education to peers.
