Topic description
This topic will enable the student to address the social, psychological and mental health issues experienced by women and their families during pregnancy, intrapartum, postnatal and early parenthood.
Educational aims
This topic will enable the student to explore the social and mental health issues experienced by women. Students will gain knowledge and skills related to conducting screening and referral in midwifery practice.
Expected learning outcomes
On successful completion of this topic students will be able to:

  • describe how social and psychological issues impact on women and their family

  • explain care policy and service provision

  • utilise appropriate psycho-social assessment tools for midwifery practice

  • demonstrate the graduate qualities of Flinders University
