Topic description
This topic will provide students with an understanding of the general pathological principles that underpin most disease processes and a more detailed background in a range of specific human diseases. In each case, the aetiology, pathology and the pathophysiology will be highlighted. Lecture material will be supported by computer based pathology tutorials, a microscopy practical and problem based pathology practicals.

This topic will provide students with an understanding of the general pathological principles that underpin most disease processes and a more detailed knowledge in a range of specific human diseases.
Expected learning outcomes
At the completion of this topic students will have;

  • an understanding of the basic pathological processes that underpin most human diseases.

  • a detailed understanding of the major diseases that affect human health.

  • an understanding of how pathological changes in specific human organs affect the normal physiology of that organ and the implications for the whole body system.

  • a basic understanding of histological techniques and microscopy.
