Topic description
This topic contextualises the role of the nurse in the professional practice setting. It also encompasses the introduction and application of knowledge of anatomy and physiology, pathology, microbiology and pharmacology as related to nursing care. Promotion of critical thinking and the development of the knowledge and skills to support professional experience placement are included. The topic includes professional experience placement.
Educational aims
The aims of this topic are to:

  • introduce and apply an understanding of anatomy and physiology, pathology, microbiology and pharmacology related to nursing care

  • enable students to develop relevant clinical and professional skills in preparation for professional experience practice

  • introduce and develop the critical thinking and clinical reasoning skills essential for nursing practice development

  • enable students to develop the ability to communicate effectively within a healthcare team.
