Topic description
In conjunction with NURS3003, this topic uses a variety of case studies across the lifespan to stimulate students' exploration of issues and concepts associated with the assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation and documentation of integrated care required for patients/clients with multiple physiological, psychological and social co-morbidities.
Educational aims
The aims of this topic are to:

  • increase the confidence and competence of students to make evidence-based critically reasoned decisions and solve problems

  • further develop students' ability to integrate evidence into nursing practice.
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic, students will be expected to be able to:

  1. Articulate the rationale for all clinical skills required to care for individuals with complex healthcare needs, based on the best available evidence
  2. Justify articulated rationales for care through providing evidence
  3. Incorporate evidence-based, culturally relevant and age-specific nursing interventions
  4. Reflect critically on assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care in the management of complex health situations
  5. Clearly communicate cognitive and technical skills to present a clear, coherent and independent nursing care provision at the expected third year level aligned with the NMBA (2016) Registered nurse standards for practice
  6. Interpret the pathophysiology and pharmacology in relation to the patients present and past health history.
