Topic description
In this topic students will be introduced to international policies and their political contexts and how this influences health care practice and population health at a global, national and local level.
Educational aims
This topic provides students with an introduction to the political context of health and health care policy from an international perspective. Students will critically examine factors that influence policy development and use accepted frameworks to explore the impacts on health systems.
Expected learning outcomes
On successful completion of this topic students will be able to:

  • Discuss factors that influence policy development from a global perspective

  • Evaluate international/national policy in relation to sustainable development goals

  • Discuss how policy and political contexts impact on the social determinants of health

  • Critically analyse international health policy and its impact on health systems and population health
