Topic description
In this topic students will critically explore the concept of clinical governance and the processes involved in achieving continuous quality improvement in global health care organisations.
Educational aims
The aim of this topic is to enable students to increase their knowledge and understanding of clinical governance and the processes required to ensure quality and safety within organisations in a global health context.
Expected learning outcomes
On successful completion of this topic students will be able to:

  • demonstrate knowledge of standards and accreditation processes in achieving quality and safety

  • demonstrate knowledge of the role of health professionals in clinical leadership, clinical education and clinical governance

  • evaluate definitions of clinical governance and continuous quality improvement in a global health care setting

  • apply and analyse patient safety and risk management processes

  • evaluate their professional responsibilities as a member of an inter-professional team

  • critically evaluate the impact of related health care policy in a local and global context

  • critically analyse organisational culture and change management in a global health care setting

  • provide solutions to problems related to sentinel events in a health organisation.
