Topic description
In this topic students will examine contemporary and evidence based health care strategies from an international perspective. Focusing on primary health programs in resource poor environments, students will learn about program development and implementation, sustainable integration of programs into health systems, community engagement and mobilisation and health professionals as agents of change.
Educational aims
The aim of this topic is to enable students to develop specialised knowledge

of contemporary health strategies in low resource countries. Students will critically examine the process of strategic policy and program development, implementation and evaluation to improve individual and community health outcomes.
Expected learning outcomes
On successful completion of this topic students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an advanced understanding of contemporary and evidence based health care strategies from an international perspective.

  • analyse international Primary Health Care program priorities and frameworks

  • Develop, implement and evaluate Primary Health Care programs for low resource environments

  • Explain the influence of capacity building, community engagement and inter-organisational collaboration in achieving health program outcomes and long term sustainability

  • Articulate health program priorities and strategies to diverse disciplinary groups
