Topic description
In this topic students will develop specialised knowledge and skills to enable application and critical analysis of concepts and theories relating to the recognition, response and management and care of the acute, complex and/or critically ill deteriorating patient in acute health care settings.
Educational aims
The aim of this topic is to develop specialised knowledge and clinical reasoning regarding management of the complex, acute and critically ill deteriorating patient in acute health settings.
Expected learning outcomes
- On successful completion of this topic students will be able to:
- critique specialised theories and concepts of acute and/or critical illness related to clinical deterioration and apply to practice
- justify clinical interventions for achieving quality and safety in patient outcomes
- identify clinical patterns occurring in complex acutely ill and/or critically ill deteriorating patient and draw inferences from these to inform practice
- articulate their role and responsibilities as a member of an inter-professional team.
