Topic description
In this topic students will develop the ability to recognise and resuscitate the acute and/or critically ill deteriorating patient in acute healthcare settings.
Educational aims
The aim of this topic is for students to critique contemporary concepts and theories of acute care resuscitation and demonstrate capabilities to recognise and resuscitate the acute and/or critically ill deteriorating patient in acute health care settings.
Expected learning outcomes
On successful completion of this topic students will be able to:

  • develop and implement a systematic approach to identifying the clinical features and initial management of the deteriorating patient requiring resuscitation

  • provide advanced life support and related clinical skills

  • conduct an advanced health assessment

  • engage in clinical reasoning to determine and implement appropriate care for the complex patient requiring resuscitation.
