In this topic, students will develop specialised knowledge for the assessment and management of adult patients in a high acuity medical nursing environment through critical exploration of evidence-based principles and practices in nursing.

The aim of this topic is for students to develop specialised knowledge in the assessment and management of adult patients in a high acuity medical nursing environment through critical exploration of evidence-based principles and practices in nursing.

On successful completion of this topic students will be able to:

• Demonstrate specialised knowledge of comprehensive health assessments to formulate nursing priorities for high acuity medical care

• Demonstrate advanced specialised knowledge of aetiology and pathophysiology in the management of adult patients requiring high acuity medical care

• Demonstrate advanced knowledge of pharmacology for the administration, monitoring and evaluation of medications in a high acuity environment

• Critique approaches for application of specialised technology in the monitoring of patients with complex medical problems in a high acuity clinical environment.

• Identify, synthesize and utilise the best available evidence in the planning and implementation of individualised nursing care, in the context of high acuity medical care.

• Apply advanced communication skills while working within a multidisciplinary team in high acuity medical nursing environment.
