Topic description
This topic is offered to students who wish to further develop an area of specialisation. The area chosen will depend on the interest of the student. The aim of this topic is to encourage students to read critically and exhaustively in the area of interest. The successful completion will mean that the student has gained demonstrable insight into preparing a paper for publication as well as being able to assess critically the techniques and investigations associated with the area of interest.
Educational aims
The aim of this topic is to encourage students to read critically and exhaustively in an area of interest. Successful completion will mean that students have gained skills in being able to assess critically the techniques, policies and investigations associated with an area of interest. Students should be able to consider the implications for professional nursing practice of their explorations.
Expected learning outcomes
On successful completion of this topic students will be able to:

  • discuss the existing literature on a specific interest area
  • analyse critically techniques, policies and investigations associated with the interest area
  • gain an insight into the specific areas which may need further investigations to establish credibility
  • consider implications for professional practice.
